Dennis Allen Umland, 73

Dennis Allen Umland, of Antigo, returned to his heavenly home on Saturday December 23, 2017, and was reunited with his son Mark after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 73 years old. His devotion to his family and firm religious belief supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Dennis was born on September 15, 1944, in Milwaukee a son of Alfred and Ada (Fandrey) Umland.
He was raised in Birnamwood and graduated from Birnamwood High School in 1963 and later graduated from Mount Scenario College with a Business Administration degree. After High School he worked at Wausau Iron Works as a welder and also did auto body repair and worked at Rogue’s in Antigo. He worked at Wicks Alignment and the Buick garage in Antigo and later joined the Wisconsin National Guard where he made a career in the military. He retired at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 5 in September 2004.
Dennis was united in marriage to Rosemary Wick on January 22, 1966, at Peace Lutheran Church, Antigo where he continued to be an active member. He has lived in Antigo since their marriage.
Dennis enjoyed the outdoors – hunting and fishing at a very early age. He spent most weekends in the summer at the family hunting cabin with his wife and children and grandchildren. He enjoyed trips out west hunting as well as a hunting trip to Africa in 2008.
He is a life member of the National Rifle Association. Dennis was an active Boy Scout Leader and served as Scoutmaster from 1979 to 1989 having started Troop 444 in Antigo. He enjoyed woodworking making various lamps, shelves, decorative designs and mounting deer horns on plaques.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary of Antigo, mother-in-law Andree’ Wick, Antigo, step-brother Harold (Judy) Fandrey, Montello, two sons Michael (Michelle) Umland, Chippewa Falls and their children David, Dustin, Katelin, Jonathan, Erin and Lauren; Matt (Kasii) Umland, Muskego and their children Peyton and Tyler; a daughter-in-law Stephanie and children Michelle and Marnie of Antigo; two great-grandchildren Kaedan and Lydia of Grand Forks, North Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Mark on April 1, 2016 and father-in-law Richard Wick.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. David Karolus officiating. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 10 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church.
