Robins fight off Hodags to keep bell
Friday’s football game brought the rival Hodags to Schofield Stadium to fight for the infamous bell, but the Robins, after being a point behind into halftime, pulled through to keep possession of the bell with a 24-13 win.
Rhinelander was the first on the scoreboard with 6:58 to go in the first quarter. The field goal kick was blocked for a score of 0-6. With two and a half minutes to go in the first quarter, Antigo’s Dominick Smith was able to tie up the game until the second quarter, when the Hodags scored another touchdown with 10:58 to go in the quarter, making the score 6-13. The Robins’ Korbin Krueger scored a touchdown in the second quarter, and a two-point conversion was attempted to get the Robins ahead. The conversion was denied, leaving the score 12-13 with the Hodags ahead into halftime. Antigo scored 2 more times in the second half, defending the bell to keep it in Antigo for another year.
Antigo’s next game is away on Friday, September 21 against Medford in the GNC Conference. Following that game, it is Homecoming Week for Antigo, with their home game set for Friday, September 28 against Wausau East.
