It finally appears that winter has arrived in Langlade County. The northern snowmobile trails will open on Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 8 am in a limited fashion.

The following is a transcript sent from Erik Rantala, the Forest Administrator for Langlade County:

Section A of the snowmobile trails in Langlade County will open at 8:00 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, with RESTRICTIONS.  Trails south of Highway J from the Lincoln County Line to Highway 45 will remain closed, with the exception of the trails from intersection 43A to Highway 45, and intersection 42A to the intersection at Highway C, H and I.  Also, trails south of Highway V from Highway 45, to Highway I, to Highway 52, along with trails west of Hill Road and west of Polar Road south of Polar, will be closed due to lack of adequate snow cover.  Trails south and west of these areas are considered unsafe and riders are warned to stay off these trails.  Anyone riding on closed trails will be cited.  For a map of closed trails, please visit www.countyoftrails.org

Trail conditions in the wooded northern and eastern parts of the county will be in fair to good condition, with the exception of some swamps which may not be completely frozen.   Trails in open fields and across lakes may be drifted and also lacking in snow cover; please use extreme caution in these areas.

Also, ATV’s are not allowed on these snowmobile trails until January 10, 2015 and when the temperature is greater than 28° F.

Here are two maps detailing the closed areas:
