George Rudolph Schmiester, 90

George Rudolph Schmiester, age 90, of Antigo died Monday, December 31, 2018 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
George was born on January 1, 1928 in Antigo to the late George and Anna (Pekarik) Schmiester.
He was a graduate of Antigo High School class of 1945. Following high school George ventured to California and worked in Yosemite National Park. He later returned to Antigo to operate the family farm.
On July 2, 1955, he was united in marriage to Mary Ehardt at St. Mary Catholic Church in Antigo.
George also worked for Antigo Electric and Gas for 37 years and worked in building construction, even building his own home.
George had many interests including gardening, growing Christmas trees, producing maple syrup, and traveling. His family and friends enjoyed his quick wit and sense of humor.
He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, where he volunteered cleaning and helping with funeral dinners. George was a member of Knights of Columbus.
Survivors in addition to his wife Mary, include a daughter, Judy Lother of Springfield, VA; two sons, Michael (Silvia) of Jefferson, MD and John of Scottsdale, AZ; and five grandchildren, Allyson, Madeline, George, Ericka and Amanda.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by seven sisters, Velma Perkins, Marion Reingruber, Emma Spearo, Josephine Johnson, Julia Keating, Betty Warzynski, Tillie Storelli; and a brother, Frank Schmeister.
The mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 11:00 AM at St. John Catholic Church. Father Matt Simonar will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until 10:45 in St. John’s Hoffmann Hall. Entombment will be in Queen of Peace Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in George’s name may be directed to St. John Catholic Church or All Saints Catholic School.
