FOR ANTIGO TIMES

Wrestling against an always tough Rhinelander team, Antigo was able to secure victories on 1-24-19 in 9 of the 14 matches to win 49-21, improving their conference dual meet record to 4-1.

Thursday’s action started at 120 pounds, where Sam Hoffman used an early takedown and arm bar to pin his opponent in 1:21.

After Logan Edwards and Jaden Schoeneck received forfeits, Ben Stimac continued his remarkable senior season with a takedown and fall in 1:33.

Up next was Dylan Warax, who secured two first period takedowns before using a reversal in the second to pin his opponent at the 3:14 mark. That victory gave Antigo an early 30-0 lead.

Josh Huess wrestled a tough match, dropping a 10-3 decision. Jovanni Castaneda found himself behind early in his match, and despite finishing the match on a 5-2 run, dropped a 13-7 decision.

Korbin Krueger regained momentum for Antigo, putting on a takedown clinic and a late near fall to win 12-3.

Collinn Eldridge added to his impressive first period pin total, with the referee calling for the fall at 1:18.

Brady VandeWeerd found himself tied at the end of regulation before giving up a takedown in overtime to drop a decision.

Nick Roller used two first period takedowns before his opponent found himself flat on his back at 1:02.

Talik Bussey was able to secure a takedown in the first period before being reversed and pinned at 1:11.

Seth Beaber dropped a match at 106 pounds, and Conner Dettman finished the evening off with some great mat wrestling and an exciting 9-8 victory.

In other Great Northern Conference action, Medford was able to defeat Tomahawk, creating a three-way tie for first place with 4-1 records. The team that finishes on top at the conference tournament in just over a week will have sole possession of the conference championship.

Up next for Antigo is the Pulaski Invite this Saturday, the 26th. Arguably one of the toughest tournaments in Wisconsin, the Pulaski Invite has 7 ranked teams and 62 ranked individuals, including 8 individuals who are currently ranked at the top of their weight class.
