The Antigo Wrestling Club sent 6 youth to compete in the Wisconsin Youth State Championships March 22nd & 23rd.

The weekend was highlighted by Alex Hofrichter becoming State Champion.  Despite mixed results not one of the wrestlers looked out of place facing the top competition in the Wisconsin.

Alex Hofricter won the State Title in the Girls 04-05  152 lbs. division by going 2-0 after a bye.  Her semifinal victory was by pinfall over Ruth Tapia of West Allis. The Championship match was a back and forth battle with Elisabeth Anderson of New Richmond. Hofrichter pulled out the victory with a third peroid pin.

In the Boys 06-07 140lbs. Mike Hagerty went 1-2.  Both losses were hard fought matches.  He lost his first match in overtime to Landon Rueckert of Beaver Dam.  Hagerty then pinned Mayson Gaddy of St. Croix Falls. In his final match Hagerty would again go to overtime before falling to Jaiden Fronczak of Oshkosh.

Devin Breitenfeldt went 2-2 in the Boys  06-07  125lbs. division.  He started his day with a Major Decision over Mason Grow of Askren Wrestling Academy.  His next match was a loss by decision to Armando Rost of Oconto Falls/Abrams. Breitenfeldt rebounded to take his next match by pinfall over Shane Sutheimer of Amherst.  His final match was a backforth battle that ended with a loss by decision to Emmett Brooks of Sparta.

Competeing in the Boys 06-07 64lbs. division Johnny Wissbroecker went 2-2. He started his tournament out with a pinfall victory over Mason Rooney of Janesville.  In the Quarterfinals Owen Wathke of Bay Port defeated Wissbroecker by Tech Fall.  Wissbroecker then went to battle with Issac Hermanson of Marinette X-Factor, coming out victorious by decision.  Joshua Kuntz of Mount Horeb defeated Wissbroecker by Major Decision in his last match.

Friday’s final competitor was Jordy Pregler in the Boys 08-09 135lbs. division.  He went 0-2 losing both matches by pinfall  to Brody Sardina of West Allis and AJ Dekebreau of Luxemburg-Casco.
