Antigo, WI – Upcoming hunter education classes in the Antigo area will allow young and new hunters an opportunity to become hunter education and bow hunter education certified.

All Hunters born after 1973 are required to pass a hunter education class. Bow hunter education is not required to hunt in Wisconsin, but some states to require this for archery hunting in their states.

The regular hunter education class will be held September 16 from 4:30PM to 8:00PM; September 17 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM and on September 19 from 9:00AM to 3:00PM at the Antigo Bow Club, located at 1112 Mendlik Ave., Antigo. The cost for this class is $10. In conjunction with this hunter education class is a bow hunter education class, which will be held September 20 from 9:00AM to 4:00PM. To be eligible for this class, attendance in a hunter education class is a prerequisite. The bow hunter class is also $10.

The bow hunter education class is taught as a companion to the hunter education class, which allows it to be taught in less time than normal. As a stand-alone class, it would be at least 10 hours.

Interested students can stop in to the Antigo Department of Natural Resources office, 223 E. Steinfest Road from 11:00AM to 2:00PM Monday through Friday to register, submit payment, and receive classroom materials. If interested students are unable to make it during office hours, they can contact Carrie Bean at 715-623-4190 ext. 3104 to make arrangements. Anyone with questions may feel free to contact the lead instructor, Conservation Warden Tim Otto at 715-623-4190 ext. 3132. For more information on hunter education, search the DNR website, dnr.wi.gov, for keywords “hunter safety.”
