Marie Margaret Gilray, 100
Marie Dickman Gilray, 100, of Birnamwood, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at the Homme Home of Wittenberg under the care of LeRoyer Hospice.
She was born on September 22, 1915, the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Gueller) Dickman. Marie graduated from Birnamwood High School in 1933. On February 26, 1937, Marie was united in marriage to Russell J. Gilray in Birnamwood. He preceded her in death on December 6. 1990. Marie was retired from Marathon Electric where she worked for over 25 years.
Marie was an active and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Birnamwood, all her life and a member of its Ladies Aid where she would help with funeral lunches. In her younger years, Marie enjoyed dancing and her and Russell belonged to a Birthday Dancing Club. She enjoyed listening to Lawrence Welk and was a wonderful cook and baker, and enjoyed making meals for her family. Marie and her husband enjoyed camping at Lake Nokomis with their family for many years.
Marie is survived by her son, Don (Virginia) Gilray, Rothschild, and their children, Jay (Tonja) Gilray, Scott (Becky) Gilray and Ron (Tonia) Gilray; her daughter, Carol (Donnie) Schoenhofen, Shawano, and their children, Jim (Mary) Schoenhofen, Rick (Christa) Schoenhofen and Rhonda (Pete) Sumnicht; her daughter, Ruth (Tim Rheinschmidt) Schmidt, Weston, and their children, Corey (Lorrie) Schmidt, Shelley (Ken) Brenden and Marsha Schmidt; her daughter, Barb (Gary) Kieffer, Wausau and their children, Nathan (Leslie) Kieffer and Andy (Leah) Kieffer; her daughter-in-law, Sandy Gilray, Wausau and her daughter, Paula (Steve) Goetsch and daughter-in-law, Karen Gilray. Marie has 21 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Bob Gilray, one sister-in-law, Alinda Gilray, nieces, nephews and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mary (Gueller) Dickman; her husband, Russell J. Gilray (1990); two sons, James in infancy (1944) and Kenny (2000); one grandson, Todd Gilray (1997); one great-grandson, Forrest Goetsch (2009); four sisters, Anna St. John, Laura Blakley, Esther Kolz and Milda Dickman and a special niece Betty Kreger.
The funeral service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Birnamwood. Rev. Betty Wyatt will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Cemetery, Birnamwood. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10AM until the time of service at the church. Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
