Irma Ann Cross Schauer, 101
Irma Cross Schauer, age 101, of Antigo died Thursday, April 7, 2016 under the loving care of the staff at Care Partners.
Irma was born on February 12, 1915 to the late George and Frances (Hartl) Grossman in the Town of Neva.
She graduated from Antigo High School in 1933 and then the Langlade County Normal School in 1934. She received her teaching degree in 1960 from University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point.
Irma married Charles “Mike” Cross in 1935. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1980. She was later married to George Schauer in 1984. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1984.
She was a devoted teacher in the area for 40 years, teaching at Fernwood, Langlade, Wilson, Elton, Elmhurst, Fallow and Spring Valley grade schools.
Irma was very creative and loved doing crafts, painting, crocheting, knitting and sewing. She enjoyed making costumes and even writing plays and skits.
Survivors include her sons Merwyn Cross of Antigo, Charles (Kathy) Cross of Kimberly, George (Sylvia) Cross of Milwaukee, Greg Cross of Phlox, daughters, Adella Page of South Milwaukee, Sandra (Jim) Reif of Antigo, a stepdaughter Sue Brush of Summit Lake, 10 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and 2 husbands, Irma was preceded in death by her sisters Clara Strasser Dvorak, Sophie Ellerman, 2 sisters in infancy, Katherine and and Barbara, a brother George Grossman and a grandson Mark Cross.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 12:00 noon at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Reverend Jeremiah Worman will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Summit Lake.
