Melvin Frank Matz, 99

Melvin ‘Frank’ Matz, 99, Birnamwood, died on Saturday, April 15, 2017 under the care of LeRoyer Hospice, Antigo at Cloverleaf Terrace, Birnamwood.
He was born on the farm on October 2, 1917 in Birnamwood (Marathon County), the son of the late Frank & Alma (Geise) Matz.  Melvin was humbled to go on the Honor Flight in 2013.
Melvin attended St. Paul Parochial School. He was a US Army Veteran serving during World War II. His service took him to Africa and Italy.
On February 18, 1950, Melvin was united in marriage to Mildred Books Houlihan in Birnamwood. She preceded him in death on February 22, 1974. He then married Irene (Lillge) Krause on November 23, 1979. She preceded him in death on January 7, 2012.
Melvin retired from Waukesha Motor Works. He enjoyed golfing and ‘fixing’ things, mostly repairing and building cars. He also enjoyed traveling which took him throughout the US and to Europe and Italy. Melvin also had a love for fishing and always had a pole ready to cast.
Melvin is survived by two step children, Don (Dianne) Krause, Melbourne, FL and Diane (James) Yatzeck, Mukwonago; grandchildren, Donald (Mimi) Krause, Michelle Krause & Lisa (George) Bogrand; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Reed and Cody; Siblings, Edward (Marion) Matz, Birnamwood, Lois Liethen, Norrie and Shirley (Robert) Clark, Birnamwood; Brother-in-law, Keith White; Sister-in-law, Marion Matz and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wives, Mildred & Irene, Melvin was preceded in death by four step-sons, Larry, Charles, Robert & Pat Houlihan; his sisters, Eudora Crawford, Evelyn Frederick and Mildred White; brothers-in-law, Warren Crawford & Eldo Frederick and nephews, Lee Eysturlid, Kenneth Frederick and Kevin Frederick.
The Funeral Service will be held at 4PM on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Birnamwood. Rev. Matthew Christians will officiate. Interment will be on Friday in Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha. Visitation will be held from 3pm until the time of service at the church.
