Boys tennis beats Phillips, Medford with only one loss on the day

For the Antigo Times

Under sunny skies, the Antigo boys tennis team lit up the courts at Medford, beating Philips 7-0 and sinking Medford 6-1. It was a perfect day for tennis and the robin players were almost perfect on the day. Drew Schwarz stayed undefeated at No. 1 singles, continuing his aggressive net play to close out points. Tanner Stueck won both his matches to stay undefeated in conference play.

The newly formed doubles team of Andrew Turunen and Tommy Blink did a good job of coming out on top of a see saw battle.

Tyler Husnick, winning twice on the day, continued to strike the ball with more pace and improving his net play.

Antigo’s only loss, coming at No. 2 doubles, went the distance. Cole Johnson and Collin Schedlbauer have lost twice this year in conference play and both times the match was decided by a third set.

“The matches against Medford were very competitive and the team did a pretty good job of staying focused to come out on top,” Coach Dave Zalewski said. “[Today], we play Rhinelander and that meet will determine whether or not we have a shot at winning the conference.”
