Antigo rolls Medford, hosts West Salem on Friday
The Antigo Red Robins defeated a familiar conference foe in the Medford Raiders this past Friday, toppling the GNC foe 48-8 at Schofield Stadium in the first round of the 2017 WIAA Playoffs.
The ground game got the job done for Antigo as the Robins rushed for 261 yards, including 84 yards for running back Dominic Smith and 58 yards for quarterback Matt Winter. The duo counted for four total Antigo touchdowns at two apiece.
Nine different ball carriers accounted for the Robins’ prolific running production, including 43 yards from Jericho Kelly and 35 yards from Adam Schmidt.
Friday’s win over Medford comes after the Robins wrapped up the GNC a title with a week to spare in the regular season thanks to a Raider loss and Robin win over Mosinee on October 6. After sharing a three-way piece of the conference title last year, Antigo entered the postseason this year as the GNC’s sole champion.
No. 1 seeded Antigo looks forward to hosting No. 4 West Salem this Friday at Schofield Stadium. West Salem comes off of 17-14 win over New Richmond in the first level of the postseason. The winner of Friday’s tilt will play either Onalaska or Rice Lake on November 3.
West Salem, playing in the Mississippi River Conference, enters the game against Antigo with an 8-2 record overall. A more in-depth preview will be provided later this week.
