Antigo Girls Soccer takes on Mosinee in First Game of Season

For the Antigo Times

Tuesday evening the Antigo Lady Robins soccer squad took on the Mosinee Indians for their first game of the season. Usually being a conference game, it was a non-conference match up since a single round robin is played because of the snowy spring season. With a last minute change of goalie, the Lady Robins started the game strong. They communicated beautifully which contributed to holding off Mosinee until minute 26 of the game. The goal came from a ricocheted ball off the top bar into the field of play, and then back up into the far corner of the net, an almost impossible shot to save. Seniors Payton Bunnell and Kailee Pomasl, along with the defensive line, held fast and pulled Mosinee offside multiple times, creating great passing opportunities for the Lady Robins. A scoring opportunity for the Robins came from a corner kick by sophomore captain McKenzie Schroepfer to freshman Jackie Martinez. Unfortunately, Martinez couldn’t get enough of a foot on it to put it to the back of the net. Junior Hannah Nonnenmacher along with her sister, sophomore Jami Nonnenmacher played the center of the field beautifully moving the ball up to attack. The Indians were able to score 2 goals in the first half and two goals in the second for a final score of 4-0. Sophmore Jena Nonnenmacher was between the pipes for the first time for the Lady Robins and had over 20 great saves during the game. The Lady Robins take on Rhinelander at 5:00 Thursday at Listle Field.
