Local Student Wins Competitive Internship in Community Health
MADISON, WI – The Wisconsin Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) has selected Jillian Incha to receive a competitive summer internship in community health at the Oneida County Health Department. The name of this internship is “Creating a Healthy Oneida County through Policy Enforcement, Community Outreach, and Evaluation.”
Jillian Incha is currently studying Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Originally from Antigo, WI, Incha graduated from Antigo High School in 2016.
The Community Health Internship Program (CHIP) is a program of Wisconsin AHEC, located at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. CHIP links college undergraduate students to local health departments, community health centers and nonprofits throughout the state to contribute to the implementation of public health projects that benefit local community.
“CHIP is a signature statewide program that originated with Milwaukee AHEC more than a decade ago,” says Brenda C. Gray, Director of Wisconsin AHEC. “Hundreds of young students have been able to enhance their competencies in both the healthcare and public health workforce sectors—providing experience to work in under-served communities across Wisconsin. We value their commitment to learn and serve while extending the mission of AHEC across the state and are equally grateful for the mentors and host sites that guide and sponsor the interns.”
The statewide CHIP program currently places 60 to 70 interns each summer in locations across the state, and the Milwaukee CHIP program places another 15 to 20 students in the Milwaukee and southeast Wisconsin region. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must demonstrate a strong academic record and interest in public health. Students selected for this highly competitive program are typically college juniors, seniors, first-year health professional students and other graduate students.
