For the Antigo Times

The County League C Team Baseball Tournament was held the last weekend of June. Spring Valley played host to the 2018 tournament. Rolling Blue won its semi-final game against Pickerel, advancing them to the championship game. Rolling Red squared off against Spring Valley in their semi-final game before advancing to the championship with a score of 21-0.

The championship game between Rolling Red and Rolling Blue started off dead, even after one inning with a 2-2 score. Rolling Red then created a bit of separation with an 8 run second inning. The hitting continued to go the way of Rolling Red as the separation grew. Rolling Red went on the win the championship by a score of 26-12.

Rolling Red began tournament play Thursday evening and defeated Elcho/Summit Lake 18-7. Rolling played Antigo Blue on Friday night, winning with a score of 24-14.

Coach Comments: Rolling Red had two brothers miss out on tournament play due to family vacation plans. They also had to overcome another teammate being sidelined with an illness. We were very fortunate to have the remaining 9 players hold up the whole time through the heat. They are a very committed group of talented ball players. We as coaches are very impressed with their commitment to the sport and coachable attitudes. Seven of nine players hit for over .730 average in the tournament. Batting average leaders were Ben Matuszewski, 18 of 19 at bats, and Max Storch, 15 or 16 in the tournament. Our hitting really came together at the right time.

Rolling Red is led by coaches Joe Pregler and Matt Sundermeyer.

Thank you’s go out to Spring Valley for putting on a good tournament and to all the fans from all teams who support the youth baseball players. Special thanks to all that helped keep the kids cool in the extreme heat this past weekend.

Rolling Red sent Jack Sundermeyer, Heath Frisch and Nathan Wild on to represent in the 2018 All Stars game.
