North Central Region Road Cconstruction Uupdate 8-3-18

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) provides weekly road construction updates for counties in north central Wisconsin: Adams, Green Lake, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Oneida, Portage, Price, Shawano, Vilas, Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood.

Construction schedules are dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.

 

Langlade County

 

Highway: WIS 52

Location: Wolf River bridge (town of Lily)

Schedule: June 18 to September 2018

Cost: $1.1 million

Description: Crews are replacing the 81-year-old truss bridge with a new concrete girder span structure that meets current design and safety standards.

Traffic impacts: WIS 52 is closed at the bridge and detoured via WIS 52, WIS 64, and WIS 55.

 

Lincoln County

 

Highway: US 8

Location: Between Klade Road and Gatewood Heights Road

Schedule: May 29 to mid-October 2018

Cost: $2.7 million

Description: Crews are replacing the pavement on US 8 and making improvements at the interchange with US 51.

Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect flagging operations, lane shifts, single lane closures, and some minor delays.

 

Marathon County

 

Highway: WIS 97

Location: Between South Street (Stratford) and WIS 29

Schedule: July 9 to early October 2018

Cost: $4 million

Description: Crews are resurfacing the highway, replacing several culverts, applying a polymer overlay to the Big Eau Pleine River bridge deck, and installing centerline rumble strips.

Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect flagging operations, lane shifts, and temporary traffic signals.

 

Highway: WIS 29

Location: Wausau to Hatley

Schedule: June 18 to late August 2018

Cost: $903,000

Description: Crews will apply a polymer overlay to the bridge decks.

Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures, speed reductions and ramp closures. Each ramp closure will have a posted detour.

 

Marquette County

 

Highway: WIS 22/23

Location: 5th Street to North Junction (Montello)

Schedule: July 23 to November 2018

Cost: $1.8 million

Description: Improvements include resurfacing the highway, bridge deck improvements, bridge maintenance, reconstruction of curb ramps, and concrete repair.

Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect to encounter lane closures, flagging operations, temporary traffic signals, parking restrictions, and some restrictions on turning movements.

 

Menominee County

 

Highway: WIS 47/55

Location: Between the Shawano County line and Duquaine Road

Schedule: May 30 to November 2018

Cost: $3 million

Description: Crews are reconstructing the highway. Improvements include construction of a roundabout at the intersection with Standing Pines Drive.

Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect lane closures, flagging operations and an 11-foot lane width restriction. Duquaine Road is closed to through traffic until late August.

 

Portage County

 

Highway: Business 51 (Post Road)

Location: Hickory Street to Minnesota Avenue

Schedule: July 11 to early November 2019

Cost: $15.3 million

Description: Work includes reconstructing the roadway, adding raised medians, widening the bridge over McDill Pond, and making intersection modifications.

Traffic Impacts: Business 51 will remain open to at least one lane in each direction. Motorists can expect to encounter flagging operations, lane closures, and traffic shifts.

 

Highway: I-39 and WIS 54 (*updated*)

Locations: I-39 (WIS 54 to North 2nd Street)

Schedule: April 23 to August 17, 2018

Cost: $7.4 million

Description: Crews will resurface the highways. Improvements include applying a high-friction surface to the I-39 bridges over the Plover River, and to northbound I-39 between Business 51 and the North 2nd Street overpass.

Traffic impacts: Motorists on I-39 can expect to encounter single lane closures and speed reductions. Some nighttime ramp closures are possible between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

 

Price County

 

Highway: WIS 13

Location: County A to County D

Schedule: June 18 to late September 2018

Cost: $3.5 million

Description: Crews will resurface the highway. Improvements include replacing culverts at Cranberry Creek and the North Fork Jump River.

Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect to encounter lane closures, flagging operations, and temporary traffic signals.

 

Shawano County

 

Highway: US 45

Location: Mentzel Road to WIS 29

Schedule: July 9 to late October 2018

Cost: $3.3 million

Description: Crews will resurface the highway. Other improvements include replacing culverts, resurfacing the deck of the Embarrass River bridge, improving drainage, and installing centerline rumble strips.

Traffic Impacts: Motorists on US 45 can expect lane closures, flagging operations, and temporary traffic signals.

 

Vilas County

 

Highway: US 51

Location: 3rd Avenue (Woodruff) to Tuckaway Road (Arbor Vitae)

Schedule: April 2, 2018 to mid-October 2019

Cost: $9.3 million

Description: Crews will reconstruct the highway to a five-lane configuration between 3rd Avenue and Tuckaway Road, replace storm sewer and culverts, replace water mains and sanitary sewer, replace traffic signals at the US 51/3rd Avenue and US 51/WIS 47 intersections, add right-turn lanes from US 51 to WIS 47, and replace street lighting.

Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect to encounter lane closures, flagging operations, and some delays during peak travel hours. Access to adjacent properties will be maintained. US 51 is open to two lanes in each direction until late August. However, motorists can continue to expect traffic impacts on WIS 47.

 

Waupaca County

 

Highway: US 45/WIS 96 intersection (*updated*)

Schedule: April 16 to August 17, 2018

Cost: $1.4 million

Description: Crews will reconstruct the intersection into a single-lane roundabout.

Traffic impacts:

  • Motorists can expect to encounter daytime, single lane closures and flagging operations.
  • WIS 96 is closed at the intersection and detoured via WIS 110, US 10 and WIS 76. It is scheduled to reopen on August 8.
  • US 45 is open to one lane in each direction.

 

Wood County

 

Highway: WIS 13 (*updated*)

Schedule: July 10 to October 2018

Cost: $3.2 million

Description: Crews will replace mainline pavement from Lakewood Lane to Ranger Road. Joint repairs will occur from Ranger Road to WIS 73.

Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures and traffic shifts. Crews will close the east access to/from Church Avenue until August 15.

 

 

Motorists are reminded that using handheld cell phones in Wisconsin work zones is illegal.
