Aging or the Art of Aging

Dear Reader,
As we age, we can tend to
become somewhat set in our ways.
Thinking outside of the box for
many of us becomes less attractive
as we take comfort in the familiar
and the predictable. We rarely
deviate from our routine. We go to
the same places and socialize with
the same people. We are creatures
of habit working with a palette of the same colors
scarcely considering the full array of paints available
for new variations and possibilities.
What if we alter the metronome of life by engaging
the aging process from a different perspective – one
that embraces a continuous sense of wonder. Curiosity
and cheerfulness and exuberance can lay a foundation
of getting younger even as one grows older.
The world becomes more restricted as time accumulates,
yet taking life not too seriously and not getting
caught in the “isms” and “ideologies” is essential
to free-style swimming in the ocean of life. We can
animate ourselves and laugh often even knowing that
tragedy is hardly far from the comedy. We can refrain
from trying to make the world to our liking and let
our fellow man be as he (or she) would be. The world
ultimately is an able teacher.
Fortunately, there’s still time to open up the palate
and paint with all the colors.
