Preschool Story Time January 17th 10:30-11:15am Antigo Public Library, 617 Clermont St., Antigo. Join us for story time at the Antigo Public Library! This is a great way for kids who haven’t started school yet to meet & socialize with peers. Every week we’ll read 2 or 3 books together as well as doing some songs & movement. We also do a simple craft or coloring page that helps kids develop creativity & motor skills, & occasionally (attendance permitting) other activities such as parachute play. This event is geared towards preschoolers, but older or younger kids are welcome to attend as well.

Rally Dog Obedience January 17th-February 21st (Wednesdays) 7:30-8:30pm Pelican Elementary School Gymnasium, 3350 Hickey Rd, Rhinelander. This fun dog obedience class is based on movement. You and your dog will learn signs of direction and commands for a training (obstacle) course that varies from week to week. This class will help you and your dog improve your agility performance. You and your dog will learn different signs each week. Dogs are required to have at least some experience with obedience. Owners must bring a 6 foot leash, the dog, favorite soft treats, and proof of rabies vaccination. $70/dog for the 6-week session. 54th Annual Amsoil World Championship Snowmobile Derby January 18th-21st Eagle River Derby Track, 1311 N Railroad St., Eagle River. The world’s premier snowmobile racing event. 1400-plus entries compete for oval & sno-cross championships in front of 30,000 spectators. Open Skate January 19th 11:30am-1pm Langlade County Hockey Arena, 1633 Neva Road, Antigo. The Antigo Area Youth Hockey Association, in collaboration with the City of Antigo Park & Rec Department, offer FREE open skates throughout the year at the Langlade County Multi-Purpose Building. The Open Skates are FREE with the donation of a canned good. There are a limited supply of skates available for use (these are free, but must be returned at the end of the skate). Thank you to the Antigo Optimists for donating money for the purchase of more skates to be used by those in the community. There is no skate sharpening at the rink during open skate times. Registration is not required to attend Open Skates.

Hot Chocolate Snow Dash January 19th 5:30pm YMCA of the Northwoods, 2003 E Winnebago St., Rhinelander. Festivities will begin at 5:30 pm with a hot chocolate and cookie social. There will be live entertainment from the youth rock-n-roll bands of the TuneSmith Academy. The event will feature specialty raffle prizes, crafts, and games. This year we are looking for sponsorship through “Youth and Family Themed” prizes and baskets that will be raffled off at the event. All money raised at the event will benefit future Youth and Family Programs at the Y.
The Three Lakes HS Drama Club presents “Arsenic & Old Lace” January 19th-21st 7pm Fri. & Sat. 1pm Sun. Three Lakes High School Auditorium, 6930 W. School St., Three Lakes. Admission is $7 for adults, $4 for students and children younger than 4 receive free admission. If you bring a nonperishable food item for the Three Lakes Christian Food Pantry, you’ll receive $1 off your admission. Each performance will include a bake sale before the play and during intermission with all proceeds benefiting the drama club. The play, which ran on Broadway in 1941, is a dark comedy that recounts the story of two spinster aunts and a less-than-normal family that has a penchant for murder. The script was later adapted for film, and the movie version was released in 1944, starring Cary Grant.
Hiroya Tsukamoto Performance January 19th 7:30-9pm Nicolet College Theatre, 5355 College Dr., Rhinelander. Originally from Kyoto, Hiroya Tsukamoto is a one-of-a kind composer, guitarist, and singer-songwriter influenced by his Japanese musical roots as well as North and South American styles. His music is best described as “an innovative, impressionistic journey, filled with earthy, organic soundscapes that impart a mood of peace and tranquility.” With a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music, Tsukamoto made his name in the US and has since performed at Blue Note in New York, released five albums, and has appeared on Japanese National Television.
