The boys will soon hit the mats for another rigorous year of wrestling

By Doug Benishek

Preparations for the 2015-16 competitive season of wrestling are underway. From intense health regimens to grueling practices, the boys do their duties with intensity and commitment.

Intensity and commitment is a tradition of the wrestling program, and it is clear that it will be a tradition that will continue to be passed down in following classes of men. Yet, although their expectations are high, new wrestlers aren’t straying from the challenge.

Assistant Coach Quinn Hrdlicka said, “Numbers-wise, I believe we are at an all-time high. With the past six years, this is the highest number of kids we’ve had out for the team. Also, we have a large number of kids returning and a large number of freshmen who are interested in the sport.”

The interest in the sport, combined with a unrelenting work ethic, certainly seems to be key to the team’s success. Coach Hrdlicka states that considering the high number of interested athletes this year, the team is hoping to do well in upcoming tournament competitions.

The team’s competitive season hits the ground running, with an expected strong field of eight other teams, which will provide a good first competitive experience for the boys this year.

Antigo Wrestling’s first tournament is the John Roberts Invite, which will take place in Antigo on Dec. 5, starting at 10 a.m.
