Amelia Moreno takes on state swim meet, moves on to Elite Showcase in Florida

Antigo Middle School 6th grader Amelia Moreno competed at the Wisconsin 12U State Swim Meet last weekend at the natatorium on the campus of UW-Madison. Swimming as an 11-year-old in the 12-and-under division, she swam personal best times in all three of her individual events.
Her events, times, time drops, and places were as follows: 200-yard breaststroke, 2:43.52, -5.26, 17th; 100-yard breaststroke, 1:14.25, -4.26, 13th; 50-yard breaststroke, 34.37, -1.26, 16th. Place finishers in the top 16 earned ribbons and points for their teams.
Moreno’s Northern Lakes Aquatic Club team finished 13th out of 51 teams at the meet.
Additionally, Moreno’s time in the 100-yard breaststroke was the 3rd fastest in the state and the 100th fastest time in the country swum by an 11-year-old this season. Her 50 yard time was the 4th fastest in the state and 140th fastest in the country for her age.
Moreno has qualified for the International Swim Coaches Association Elite Showcase Classic in Clearwater, Florida from April 5th-8th, where she will swim with the other NLAC qualifiers: Amber Winter (11, Merrill), Jenna Beam (10, Black River Falls), Eric Bergmann (13, Medford) and Grace (14) and Faith (13) Forsberg (Rice Lake).
