Screenagers Movie & Discussion March 27th 6-8pm Palace Theater, 823 5th Ave., Antigo. Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs & a 6 second attention span? Physician & filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids & learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time & about the friction occurring in homes & schools around negotiating screen time. In Screenagers, Delaney probes into the vulnerable corners of family life to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics & internet addiction. Through poignant & unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, & brain scientists, Screenagers reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development & offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world & find balance. Dinner and a Movie Series – Flight of the Whooping Crane March 28th 5:30-9pm Treehaven UWSP, W2540 Pickerel Creek Rd., Tomahawk. This documentary follows the migration of the endangered whopping crane from its wintering grounds in Texas to its nesting grounds in Canada’s Northwest Territories. A group of wildlife biologists tracked the cranes using radio collars and captured beautiful images from the ground and stunning aerial photography along the way. Learn about the migration of a crane family as they make their way northward on a perilous 3000-mile journey. The film is eloquently narrated by the late John Huston. Staff will provide a parent lesson, an activity for parents and children to do together. The activity will build skills for school readiness and milestone achievement. Children’s Festival April 1st 10am-2pm Smith Center 1100 Marc Drive Merrill. Merrill Police Department will be co-sponsoring the event again this year. Your child will also have an opportunity to “Get Fit For Duty” with Merrill’s Superheros!” They will be challenging all kids to complete the obstacle course that will be set up. Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt April 1st Gleason Community Club, N5335 State Highway 17, Gleason. Children ages 10 and under are invited to participate. Doors open at 10:30am. Please enter the building upon arrival and sign your children up for their age appropriate games and prizes. Easter Egg Hunts start promptly at 11am. Plan to bring a bag/basket for your children’s eggs and dress them appropriately (rubber boats, etc.) in the hope of being outside for the egg hunt. 28th Annual Antigo Lions Club Sportsmen’s Raffle and Spaghetti Dinner April 2nd 11am-3:30pm Swartzendruber’s Supper Club, 1315 Forrest Ave., Antigo. The spaghetti dinner will be from 11am until 2pm. Hunter Education and Bow Hunter Education Classes April 4th, 5th & 8th 4:30pm Antigo Bow Club, 1112 Mendlik Avenue, Antigo. These classes will provide young and new hunters an opportunity to become certified in hunter education and bow hunter education. All hunters born after 1973 are required to pass a hunter education class. Bow hunter education is not required to hunt in Wisconsin, but some states do require this for archery hunting in their states. The lead instructor will be Tim Otto of the Wisconsin DNR. Class times will be: April 4th 4:30-8pm; April 5th 5-8pm; April 8th 9am-3pm.
