For the Antigo Times

Three Antigo area young men will be touring with the prestigious musical troupe Kids from Wisconsin this season, representing the group’s 49th year of performance with its “Head Out on the Highway” theme. Let’s get to know these talented and dedicated young men and their stories:

Doug Benishek

Doug Benishek, a graduate from Antigo High School, was recently chosen from among many talented youth who auditioned this past February for the 2017 KIDS from Wisconsin show troupe.

He recently finished his freshman year at Boston University, where he is studying pre-med human physiology with a music minor. Favorite credits include: UWMC Jazz Ensemble, BU Night at the Pops, and BYE BYE BIRDIE (Albert). Doug continues his passion for music with the BU Marching Percussion Ensemble, “BU On Broadway,” BU Pep Band, and as Orchestra Manager for the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras.

Brennon Brown

Brennon Brown, a graduate from Antigo High School, was recently chosen from among many talented youth who auditioned this past February for the 2017 KIDS from Wisconsin show troupe.

Brennon stays musically active through local theatre productions, singing barbershop and a cappella music. He has performed on many stages around the country including Belmont University’s Black Box Theatre and Carnegie Hall. Brennon will be attending the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities next fall in pursuit of a major in Political Science.

Isaac Cuellar

Isaac Cuellar, a graduate from Antigo High School, was recently chosen from among many talented youth who auditioned this past February for the 2017 KIDS from Wisconsin show troupe.

Isaac is an upcoming junior at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, studying music therapy with Dr. Michael J. Silverman and studying oboe with John Snow. Isaac is an avid barber shopper, singing tenor with the internationally acclaimed chorus, The Great Northern Union. As a keyboardist, Isaac has played in community theatre shows around the twin cities and has been an accompanist for the GNU on their non-barbershop repertoire.

About the Kids from Wisconsin:

In their 49th season, the KFW will perform for more than 120,000 across Wisconsin and the Midwest, with great entertainment by some of Wisconsin’s most talented performers ages 15-20. The revue is produced in collaboration with some of the best writers, arrangers, and choreographers across the country.

It is a privilege and honor to any community and a tribute to its arts program to have a student be chosen to take part in the professional performance experience of a Kid from Wisconsin.

The three local young men will celebrate their hometown performance in Antigo on July 18th. Other performance dates are listed on the Kids from Wisconsin website: www.kidsfromwisconsin.org
