Who says holidays have to be relegated to certain times of the year? Antigo High School certainly does not as AHS kicks off the 2017 homecoming week with the theme in mind of “Coming Home for the Holidays,” celebrating multiple different festivities throughout the week.

Beginning on Sunday, September 17th, the now-annual STUD Spike boys volleyball tournament will be held in the Sheldon Fieldhouse from 3 – 5:30 PM with hall decorating to follow at the school from 6 – 8 PM.

Monday marks the start of the week’s focus on a variety of holidays, beginning with Ho, Ho Homecoming in the spirit of jolly ole St. Nick and the yuletide festivities. The opening ceremonies assembly to kick off the week will be held from 9:15 to 9:40 AM in the fieldhouse.

Things turn spooky the next day as students get an early jump on Halloween with Terrifying Tuesday, while Wednesday represents their respective Mother’s and Father’s Days.

The Thursday tradition of powderpuff football starts at 4 – 7 PM at Schofield Stadium, followed by a community pep assembly at the stadium. The championship powderpuff game will be held at 8 PM. During the school day on Thursday, classes will don their festive colors for class color day, including St. Patty’s green for freshmen, Valentine’s Day red or pink for sophomores, the red, white and blue of Independence Day for juniors, and New Year’s Eve black and gold for seniors.

Friday is the traditional “Spirit Day,” where students take to wearing maroon and white to represent Antigo. The homecoming assembly will begin at 2 PM at the fieldhouse where the crowning of the king and queen will take place, followed by the homecoming parade at 4 PM (beginning at St. John’s and continuing to West Elementary). Spirit Day is capped by the Red Robins football team taking on the Medford Raiders at 7 PM from Schofield Stadium.

The week of yearly holidays and celebrations culminates with the homecoming dance on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 7:30 – 11 PM at the high school.
