Antigo soccer falls under the lights to T-birds

For the Antigo Times
The Antigo girls soccer team played under the lights in Minocqua on Tuesday night, falling to the Great Northern Conference’s Lakeland Thunderbirds 4-0.
The Lady Robins (now 1-12-1) came out strong but quickly struggled with communication completing their passes. The Thunderbirds (7-6-2) also seemed to take awhile to get their groove going.
At the 11-minute mark, the Thunderbirds made the first strike. The Robins were able to get their heads in the game and ran with the Thunderbirds. In the 21st minute, Lakeland was able to strike again with a high, lofting shot to the upper right corner.
Antigo was able to get some shots on goal in the first half but never met the back of the net. Lakeland came away with one more goal before the half making the score 3-0.
The Robins came alive in the second half and were able to move the ball effectively allowing the girls to have several shots; Murron Roff (senior) Kate Stensberg (junior) and captain Marissa Hartman (senior) were all able to take their turns at Lakeland’s goalie.
Lakeland squeaked in one more goal on a corner kick making the score 4-0. The solid defensive line was able to hold Lakeland’s aggressive attack for the remainder of the game.
Annette Olsen was in goal for the Robins and had 14 incredible saves. Although the Lady Robins left all they had on the field they still fell to the Thunderbirds.
The Lady Robins are primed and ready to take on Medford (0-12) at Listle Field this Thursday, beginning at 5p.m.
